Depth

Who can dive the deepest?  Humans have always challenged themselves and diving into the lake or pool to get something off the bottom seems something every little child tries to do. When they grow up, if they haven’t quenched that thirst, they become freedivers. AIDA is the international governing body of the sport and has member nationals all over the world. There are several disciplines in this category.  They are listed here.

Constant Weight with Fins

The athlete swims to depth using either bi-fins or a monofin, where a tag is grabbed and brought back to the surface.

Free Immersion

The athlete uses only the arms to pull down and back to the surface using the descent line.  No fins are worn

No Limits

As the name implies, the diver may use any means to get down and back up to the surface, usually a sled and an air balloon. This is a records only discipline.

Constant Weight No Fins

Considered the purest form of freediving, the athlete swims down and back up without the use of fins or from pulling on the line.

Variable Limits

The diver ride a weighted sled down the line and then must either swim or pull their way back to the surface. This is a records only discipline.
